Questions painters ask about the plan, answered in full
The price, GST, the minimum term, what you supply, how edits work, who owns what and what we can't promise. Straight answers that match the plan terms word for word. If yours isn't here, ask it on a call.
The plan and the price
What does NZ$269 a month actually cover?
A website for your painting business, built from the content you supply and live within 14 days of us receiving it. It carries the parts painting work is sold on: a before and after gallery grouped by job type, a quote form that asks about the job, a page for each service you offer and a plain list of the suburbs you cover.
The monthly fee then pays for running it: hosting, the SSL certificate, security updates, up to 5 content edits a month and a monthly report of the enquiries the site received. Nothing is itemised on top apart from the one-off NZ$549 setup fee.
Is there a setup fee, and when is it charged?
Yes: NZ$549, paid once. It pays for building the site and is invoiced when you sign up. The monthly fee only starts from the month your site goes live, so you are never paying a monthly fee for a site that isn't up yet.
The setup fee isn't refunded once the build has started, except where the plan terms or the law say otherwise.
Do the prices include GST?
No. Prices are shown without GST and the label reads "GST may apply". A business only charges GST once it is registered, and registration is required when turnover reaches $60,000 in 12 months. If GST applies when we invoice you, it is added and shown on the invoice.
How long is the minimum term?
12 months from the day your site goes live. The setup fee and the monthly fees together pay for building and running the site across that first year, which is why the plan has a minimum term. It is stated here, on the pricing page and in the plan terms, so there is nothing to find in the small print later.
What happens after 12 months?
The plan carries on month to month at the same fee. Either of us can end it with written notice before the next billing date, and it finishes at the end of the month already paid for. If the fee ever changes, you get at least 30 days’ written notice first and can end the plan before the new fee starts.
Can I cancel during the minimum term?
You can end the plan at any time with written notice, but the monthly fees for the rest of the minimum term remain payable. That doesn’t apply if you end it because we seriously breached the terms and didn’t fix the problem within 14 days of you telling us.
Why is there only one plan?
Because a painting business doesn’t need a menu of tiers to choose from. A sole-trader house painter and a commercial contractor need different pages, but the same things underneath: a fast site, a gallery, a proper quote form, somebody to make changes and somebody to keep it secure. One plan means one price, stated in full, with no upsell waiting on the second call.
Who is the plan for?
Painting and decorating businesses in New Zealand: house painters, exterior and roof specialists, commercial contractors, decorators and wallpaper hangers, and painters who work for builders. It is sold to businesses only, not to individuals for personal use.
Getting your site built
What happens once I say yes?
We send you the order confirmation and the content checklist. The checklist asks for your business details, the services you offer, the suburbs you cover, photos of your work, any prices you want shown, your logo if you have one and access to your domain. Answer it in plain words, even as rough notes. As soon as everything is in, the 14-day build period starts.
How long does it take to get my site live?
Within 14 days of us receiving everything on the content checklist. The clock starts at your content, not at the day you sign, so the sooner the checklist is back the sooner you are live. If something is missing we tell you what, straight away, rather than finding out on day ten.
What do I need to supply?
Your business details, the services you offer, the suburbs and towns you cover, before and after photos of your work, any prices or price guidance you want shown, your logo if you have one, and access to your domain. The content checklist on the How it works page lists every item, and you can tick them off as you go.
Do I need professional photos of finished jobs?
No. Phone photos taken in daylight work well: a wide shot of the whole house or wall, taken straight on, from the same spot before and after. Send what you have. If the gallery is thin at launch, adding new pairs as you finish jobs is exactly what the monthly edits are for.
Do you write the words for my site?
No. Writing your content isn’t part of the plan, and we would rather your site sound like you than like an agency. The checklist asks simple questions about your business, and you can answer them in your own words, even as notes. We lay your words out on the pages, keep your meaning and fit them to the structure.
Do I see the site before it goes live?
Yes. We send a private preview link. Check it the way a customer would, on your phone, looking for your services, your suburbs and the quote button. Anything wrong or missing gets fixed before launch.
I don’t have a logo. Is that a problem?
No. Logo design isn’t included, but the site can show your business name in clean type until you have a logo. When you get one, adding it is one content edit.
I already have a domain and an old website. Can I keep them?
You keep your domain and point it at the new site, so customers who know your address still find you. Text and photos from your old site can be reused if they belong to your business. We don’t carry the old design across; the point is to replace it.
Who owns the domain name?
Your business does. The domain is registered in your business name and you pay the registrar directly, so it stays yours whatever happens to the plan.
Edits and running the site
What counts as a content edit?
One change you ask for on an existing page. Typical edits for a painter: a new before and after pair in the gallery, a changed price or service description, an added suburb, new hours, a "booked until March" line on the home page, a new review you have permission to quote. Up to 5 are included every month.
How do I send a change?
Email or message it, in plain words, with any photos attached straight from your phone. You don’t log in to anything and you don’t need to know how the site works. We make the change and tell you when it is live.
What if I need more changes than the plan includes?
We tell you the price before doing the work, and nothing is charged unless you agree. New pages, new features or a redesign are outside the plan and are priced the same way: in writing, first.
What is in the monthly report?
How many enquiries came in through your website’s form that month, with the date and job type of each. Each enquiry is also sent to you as it arrives, so the report is a record rather than the first time you hear about a job. Over a few months it shows which services people ask about most.
Is hosting an extra cost?
No. Hosting, the SSL certificate and security updates all sit inside the monthly fee. Nothing arrives separately to pay, nothing expires in your name, and no updates wait for you to run them.
What happens to my site if I leave?
We stop hosting it at the end of the plan. On request we give you a copy of the content you supplied, and help you point your domain wherever you choose. Your domain, words, photos and logo are yours; our templates and code stay with us.
Google, reviews and results
Will my website rank on Google?
We can’t promise any ranking, traffic or number of enquiries, and nobody honestly can. Google itself says there is no guarantee a site will be indexed, that changes can take from a few hours to several months to show, and that there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. What we do is build pages Google can read, with your services and suburbs clearly described, and keep them current.
Do you give painting advice or quote jobs for us?
No. We are a website studio, not a painting business. Your prices, your quotes, your paint systems and your advice to customers stay with you. The site presents what you tell us, in your words.
Do you run Google Ads or Facebook ads?
No. Paid advertising and ad spend aren’t part of the plan. If you run ads yourself, the site gives them somewhere clear to send people: a service page with a quote button, rather than a Facebook post.
Can the site show my reviews?
Yes, real ones. We link to your Google reviews and show reviews you have permission to use, word for word. We never write reviews or testimonials for a client, and we won’t show a star rating we can’t check.
Do you set up my Google Business Profile?
The profile belongs to you and is managed in your own Google account, so you set it up. We link your website and profile together, and our blog explains how to set the profile up for a painting business, including hiding your home address if you travel to customers.
The details behind these answers are on the cost page, what you get, how we build it and the plan terms.
